Hello everyone,
Microsoft has introduced the Cross-Subscription Load Balancer, now available in public preview. This new capability enables organizations to manage load balancing across multiple subscriptions, improving flexibility and simplifying network architecture in Azure.

What’s New?
- Cross-Subscription Frontends – Load balancer frontends can now exist in a different subscription than the load balancer itself, making multi-subscription networking more seamless.
- Cross-Subscription Backends – Backend pool instances can reside in separate subscriptions, enabling centralized traffic distribution across different teams or departments.
- New SyncMode Property – Introduces two ways to manage backend pool updates:
- Automatic Mode – Ensures backend pool instances sync automatically, ideal for scaling environments.
- Manual Mode – Requires manual updates to backend pools, useful for disaster recovery and controlled provisioning scenarios.
How to Get Started
- Check Permissions – Ensure the required roles and authorizations are in place across the involved subscriptions.
- Configure Frontend IPs – Enable remote frontend support when using IPs from different subscriptions.
- Set Up SyncMode – Choose between Automatic or Manual backend synchronization based on your operational needs.
Why It Matters
Managing network resources across multiple subscriptions has often been challenging, requiring workarounds or custom solutions. With this new feature, organizations can simplify networking, improve traffic distribution, and enhance operational efficiency in Azure environments.
This feature is now in public preview, so it’s a great time to test it and see how it fits your infrastructure needs. More improvements are on the horizon—stay ahead of the curve! 🚀
